8 December: It's with a heavy heart that Bronwyn and Remy have decided to stop doing in person music on Wednesdays. The weather is starting to head into iffy territory and in conjunction with rising cases in Maine and in our community, we both think it's best to wait until either the restrictions are lifted on indoor music or until spring. Thanks for a great couple of months, we are stoked more when it's safe! 2 December: No in person music today. We cancelled yesterday when the forecast looked iffier. NOW it looks fine, ugh. Oh well. Hopefully next week! 1 Nov: HAPPY NOVEMBER! I need an extra day to work on the new format for the lesson schedule. I didn't realize but the shift in classes requires us to revamp our time structure too. Here is the plan for this week: Monday is a half day: I (Remy) am teaching a small group of students who need makeup lessons from Friday tomorrow. Those people have been emailed. You will get your lesson time for this week on Monday. This may be a week where I do not have room to teach non-C block students, but I'll try my best. BAND/ORCHESTRA will meet from 10:20-10:35. Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: lessons with the new schedule. Remember on Tuesday/Thursday to sign in to class even though there is no formal instruction on those days. Reminder that the class is deliberately flipped so that you have built in time to practice, work on projects/forums/etc. and catch up work you might miss because of a lesson. We always meet in the same meet. You know the one. Wednesday: we are meeting in person! Weather looks decent and we'll keep going until it gets to be too nasty. New folks be sure to practice along with those practice tracks of Superstar, Horse, etc. I'm working on more! Thank you everyone- hope you are enjoying the weekend. The darkness at 4:30 is totally played. 13 Oct: Band/Orchestra/Chorus are meeting in person tomorrow. If you are in band/orchestra, here is the email I sent with a bit more info. 2 October: We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Nin Ferm. Nin is a cornerstone of MDIHS Music and will be greatly missed. She served as a Music Booster over the span of four directors! I am so grateful to have had the chance to work alongside her throughout my first few years here. She carried such a wealth of knowledge about the history of our program and was nothing but enthusiastic, supportive and deeply kind. MDIHS Music would not be what it is today without her tireless devotion. If you haven’t had a chance, read this wonderfully written obituary that so beautifully captures Nin. Much love to the entire Ferm family from MDIHS music. 1 October: How is it already October? How? Someone tell me. Reminder that if you are in person during C block today, you go to the theater. Don't forget to grab your mic. And if you need a tuner/metronome, let me know. Or reeds. Or sticks. Or a smile. Have a great first day, buds. 30 September: When you are in person at school on a day when we don't have band/orchestra/chorus, you'll be in the theater. See your email for more details. 30 September: No in person music today due to weather. Ugh. 28 September: Info about jazz all state is here. If you are interested, I'd like to know by October 1 (Oct 13 is the registration deadline). More info if you click that link! 21 September: Be sure to check the lesson schedule above for your lesson and class times. No in person band/orchestra/chorus on Wednesday of this week because of freshman orientation. We are hoping to kick off in person playfest on Wednesday, September 30! Stay tuned.
16 September: No in person band/orchestra/chorus today. That'll start in a few weeks once the bus situation is sorted out through the school. Keep checking your email and make sure you show up for your lesson! We had 8 no shows yesterday! On days when there isn't band/orchestra, you are expected to practice during that normal slot- it's a flipped model. As of now band/orchestra meet Mondays/Fridays, you have your weekly lesson and you are to practice in those other slots. It's built into your schedule! You each will have things to be working on through your lessons. Email Mr. Remy with any questions. The lessons thus far have been incredible!
10 September: Remy/Bronwyn are working on building the lessons schedule. The lessons will start next week. At any given time, we may also meet in full cblock or in small ensembles. It's flexible, but the details will always be available here first and foremost. Band/Orchestra students at this point should have signed into Google Classroom, completed the practice assignment, signed up for sightreadingfactory.com, joined our class and completed the practice assignment. Check your email for how-to's and more information.

I felt that for the first time this year during half time tonight. Dang. That usually doesn’t start happening until basketball. DANG. Thanks for a great football pep band season. I’m proud of us for learning all of the old stuff EVEN THOUGH half of the band is freshmen (like 50 tunes), adding a bunch of new tunes to the book (like 8 tunes) and staying excited about adding even more (like 50 tunes), and for breaking both our all time high for football pep band attendance (like 92) and the best average attendance for football pep band (like 83). We are going with a different provider this year and we’ve been up to their tree lot to see the trees. They are nicely trimmed and look really good. We need your help to sell them. Sign up here to volunteer: http://signup.com/go/FpHfyhr We’re doing the schedule a little different this year, with 2 hour signup blocks rather than 4. That way you can more easily find times that suit your schedule. 6 September: We are working hard on trying to get all of our website up to date. If you look around, it's all over the place. But just a reminder: all of the information you need about times, places, procedures is HERE first and foremast. You need not look anywhere else!
6 September: Reminder! New folks should join our closed music facebook 'MDIHS MUSIC' if they have facebook. If you don't have facebook, no big deal, all important, necessary info will always be posted here!
6 September: Band/Orchestra folks. If you still need an instrument locker, please do one of three things: 1) tell Mr. Remy and he'll hook you up, 2) tell an upperclassman and they'll hook you up or 3) look for an open one and take it. Once you have a locker, you should make sure it's documented on this list. Keep in mind that this is a list copied from last year, so there's likely to be irrelevant info left- folks who have graduated, folks who no longer need lockers, etc. Feel free to edit as you see inconsistencies. Behind on your MDIHS music news? Head to old news for more from this school year. 31 August: We are working on revamping how our calendar works. We appreciate your patience as we work out the kinks. As of now, it's my (Michael Remy) work calendar with irrelevant information on it. I'm also new to using a digital calendar. I'm old school. If you are looking for the traditional list of events, it's still listed on the calendar portion of the website. 30 August: Everyone meet in the music room for C block. 29 August: Welcome back. We are in the process of revamping our website a bit. We are hoping to add a calendar on the main page. In the meantime: there is pep band on Friday, August 31. Arrive at 6pm (545 if you want to play frisbee). Green pep band shirts will be available for purchase.
